Daily Assignments

 

 

 

All daily assignments are posted below. The links to websites can be found on the Educational Links page. If you have any questions, please email me, kcruts@washtwpsd.org, or use the Remind App. 

 

We will be starting a new writing unit on How To Books. Please refer to the templates that were emailed for the daily writing assignment. Please keep in mind it will take about 2 weeks to complete the first book together as each part will be broken down.  I will be introducing the different parts of this writing process through Zoom Lessons. 

 

Monday, April 20

ELA:

  • Kids A-Z Progress Assessment: found under the FLIGHT CHECK spaceship, not the assignments one.(This is a 3 part assessment that needs to be completed in one session as it cannot be paused to complete at a later time. The average time is about 20 minutes. Students will also be recording themselves read, so please make sure they are in a quiet place when they start it.) The directions for each part are listed below.
  1. Part 1 Reading: Students will read aloud into the device and it will record what they are reading. Please make sure they know to read it aloud in a nice first grade voice because I will be listening to them once they are submitted.
  2. Part 2 Retell: Students will do an oral retell about the reading passage. Please make sure they know to speak loudly into the device so I can hear what they said. 
  3. Part 3 Comprehension Check: Students will answer the multiple choice questins at the end of the story.

  • Writing: Brain Pop Jr.: Writing a How To Essay

     Students should watch the video and complete the quiz.

Math: GO Math Online Assignment: Lesson 9.9: Practice Telling Time

  • Compete 9.9: Practice Telling time on the Think Central website
  • This assignment can be found under the "To Do" tab when you login, all parts must be completed.
  • The questions answered under the red whistle (end of the lesson) will be graded

Tuesday, April 21

ELA:

  • Readworks Article: The Project

     Sudents may skip question 8 (submit without answering)

  • 1 Lesson Reading Eggs
  • Superkids student booklet page 13
  • Writing: Things I Know How to Do Page (sent in parent email). Think about different things you already know how to do. Make a list of differrent topics you could write a How To Book about (your list should have at least 5 different things you could write about, but you can fill in all the spaces if you would like)

Math: Go Math Student Textbook 

  • Lesson 9.9 (split into 2 days)- Complete pages 562-563 

Content:

  • SPLIT OVER 2 DAYS: Needs and Wants Collage: Look through newspapers, magazines, flyers in the mail or draw your own pictures to create a collage showing needs and wants. I would suggest splitting the paper in half and gluing needs on one side and wants on the other, but you are more than welcome to get as creative as you would like!

 

Wednesday, April 22

ELA:

  • Kids A-Z: Rainbows, Who Needs Rain or Earth's Water

     Students must read and answer the questions at the end. Please remember only 1 book from above was assigned to your child and can be found under the assignments spaceship when you login.

  • Superkids Student Booklet Pages 14-15
  • Writing: Join me for an Optional Zoom lesson at 1:00 PM to complete the writing assignment for today (invite will be sent via the Remind App). If you aren't able to make it, please follow the directions to complete the section for today: Choose 1 topic on the list you made yesterday and on the Materials and Steps Page (sent in parent email) list the materials on the top 2 lines. Use the example provided to write your materials sentence. (Example: You will need marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate, a campfire and a stick.)

Math: Go Math Student Textbook 

  • Lesson 9.9 (second day)-Complete pages 564-566

Thursday, April 23

ELA:

  • Superkids textbook: Read the story: "The Lesson" on pages 138-148
  • Complete the Lesson and Moral paper about the story (sent in parent email: this paper is not to be shared and can ony be used for your child's work).
  • Writing: Using your same topic and page from yesterday, draw pictures to show the steps for your How To Book (you should have a minimum of 3 steps).

Math:

  • Spring Time (Packet #2)
  • Make the Time (Packet #2)

Content: 

  • SECOND DAY: Needs and Wants Collage: Finish the needs and want collage from earlier in the week. We will share them at our Zoom meeting tomorrow afternoon or you can send me pictures when you are done. 

 

Friday, April 24

ELA:

  • Readworks Article: Carl's Garden Problem

          Students may skip Quesion 8 (submit without answering)

  • 1 Lesson on Reading Eggs
  • Superkids student booklet pages 16-17 about the story you read yesterday titled, "The Lesson"
  • Writing: On the same page as yesterday, next to the first 2 pictures, write a sentence to tell what is happening in those steps. Don't forget to use your transition words such as, First, Next, Then and Last!

Math: GO Math Online Assignment 

  • Start the Chapter 9 Test under your "To Do" list on the Think Central website. 
  • This test will be split over 2 days, you can finish it on Monday. 

Content:

  • Optional Zoom meeting at 1:00 PM to share needs and wants collages (invite will be sent via Remind App). 

 

Monday, April 27

ELA:

  • Kids A-Z: The Drum or The Giant Turnip

     Students must read and answer the questions at the end. Please remember only 1 book from above was assigned to your child and can be found under the assignments spaceship when you login.

  • Complete the Book Banner (found in Original Packet titled Procject #48) on the lesson of the story you read on Kids A-Z.
  • Writing: On the same page as  last week, next to the last 2 pictures you drew, write a sentence to tell what is happening in those steps. Don't forget to use your transition words such as, First, Next, Then and Last!

Math: Online Assignment 

  • Finish the Chapter 9 test that was started on Friday
  • Please make sure you click on the submit button when finished, so I can see the results.

ELA:

  • Writing: Join me for an Optional Zoom lesson at 10:00 AM to complete the writing assignment for today (invite will be sent via the Remind App). If you aren't able to make it, please follow the directions to complete the section for today: Using the Introduction Page (sent in parent email), write an introduction for your "how to" topic. This will be about 2 sentences to tell your reader what you are going to teach them in your book. (Example: Have you ever gone camping, but didn't know what to make for a fun treat? In this book you will learn how to make S'mores for a tasty treat while camping)

ELA:

  • Superkids student Booklet: Page 18 (page 19 is a memory game, it is optional if you would like to play that game at some point as well).
  • Superkids Textbook: Read the story, "That Was Yesterday" on pages 149-158
  • Superkids student booklet: complete page 22 in student booklet 
  • Writing: Join me for an Optional Zoom lesson at 10:00 AM to complete the writing assignment for today (invite will be sent via the Remind App). If you aren't able to make it, please follow the directions to complete the section for today: Using the Conclusion Page (sent in parent email),Write a conclusion for your "how to" topic. Write 2 sentences telling your reader what they can do with the information you just gave them. (Example: Now you know how to make S'mores! Go ahead and try them the next time you go camping!)

  • Show What You Know: page 572
  • Graph Game: Page 574 (Since you don't have access to a spinner at home with the 3 different colors, I would recommend using three crayons or pieces of paper in a bag to choose and graph for the graphing game.)

Thursday, April 30

ELA:

  • Kids A-Z: Free Choice Day! Choose any book from your Level Up Library to read. 

         Students must read a book of their choice and answer the questions at the end. Please tell me which book you read through the Remind App or Email.

  • Superkids student booklet page 21(goes along with the story from yesterday) and 25 
  • Writing: Create your Book Cover (sent in parent email). Remember to capitalize all the words in your title and draw picture showing what your How To Book is about. Then, Reread your How To Book and fill out the Student Rubric (sent in parent email). If you need to make any changes, today is the day to make them. We will be sharing them tomorrow afternoon during our Zoom Meeting! 

 Math: Brain Pop Jr.: Pictographs

  • Students should watch the video and complete the quiz.

 Friday, May 1

ELA:

  • Bees to Flowers Blends (Packet #2)
  • Readworks Article: A Butterfly's Life
  • Writing: Optional Zoom meeting at 10:00 AM to share our How To Books. If you would like to put your book together before our meeting the pages should be in the following order: 1. Book Cover 2. Introdcution 3. Materials and Steps Page and 4. Conclusion (the rubric can be kept separate or inlcuded as the last page of your book).

 Math: Go Math Online Assignment

  • Compete 10.1: Picture Graphs on the Think Central website 
  • This assignment can be found under the "To Do" tab when you login and complete the first 3 sections only (This will include the green, blue and purple bullseyes only). 
  • DO NOT COMPLETE THE ORANGE OR RED WHISTLE TODAY.
