Dear Parents or Guardian:

Louisiana law requires that any student that is 11 years old show proof of immunization against Meningococcal Meningitis (MCV4) and any booster doses recommended by the Office of Public Health. This is in addition to the immunizations your child should have received before entering school.

Please contact your child’s physician to schedule an appointment and turn in an updated record by the first day of school. Your child will NOT be allowed to att...end school if you fail to comply with obtaining these immunizations or turn in a notarized letter of dissent.

If you have any questions or concerns you may contact me by email at Jodie.Guitreau@lpsb.org

French Café Needs Your Help

Dear Parent or guardian,

As you probably know by now, our traditional French Café will be held on December 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  This 5th grade charity event‘s purpose is to raise money to help the less fortunate families in our community by providing children with Christmas presents and food for their family’s Christmas dinner.

The French Café operates strictly on donations. We ask parents to donate food, drinks, and supplies for the café. In the past, the generosity of the parents of the 5th graders, faculty, and staff was enough to host the café. However, the success of the café is so important now, we are in need of more donations in order for our café to be as successful this season as we have in the past.

The Café night is also filled with other fund-raising activities such as the Silent Auction, where people can bid on artistic pieces and crafts, and the “Raffle for a Basket,” where people can purchase raffle tickets to win a huge basket full of goodies. This year we are also opening a gift shop, Santa’s Workshop, and a Cake Walk. All of these activities will help to raise money with the French Café’ and will also be used for our charitable cause.

For all of these reasons, we are extending our wish for donations to the whole school; in fact, we are extending it to the whole community. Below, you will find a list of all the things we need. If you would like to donate and help us, please complete the form, and send it back to school by Friday, November 18.

The French Café has always received your support in the past, and I know that we can count on it again this year.  Thank you in advance for your kind donations.

Sincerely,

Frederic Ledent

12th Annual Maurepas Beauty Pageant

Mrs. Stilley and I thought long and hard as to whether to have a pageant this year. Because of the many students and their parents that are exhausted from dealing with flood waters, soaked sheetrock, and rebuilding their homes and lives, a beauty pageant seemed like a trivial thing to worry about.  Dealing with the same thing at my home, I know how hard it is to find time to help our children heal and feel normal again.  In the end, we decided that getting back to normal (or as normal as possible) was probably the best thing our students, your daughters, needed at this time. Maybe a little entertainment is what we will all need by the time the pageant rolls around. So, we are going to have the beauty pageant on Thursday, October 13th.  We have changed a few things to help more of you participate.  For this year, we have lowered the cost of the entry fee to $20.  We have also changed the Petite, Little, and Pre-Teen Divisions to a Sunday’s-Best Pageant.  You will no longer need a glitzy pageant dress to enter the contest. You will only need a pretty dress you would wear to church, a party, or a special function.  Sunday’s-Best Pageant contestants wear little or no make-up, and have naturally fixed hair with no hair pieces. (This is not the Livingston Parish Fair, so a smock dress is ok, but not necessary.)

“Pageants teach the exact same skills that sports do: goal setting, “can do” attitude, and performance under pressure.  But in pageants, you wear much better shoes!” I believe that pageants do this and much, much, more.  They give you confidence, courage, and a knowledge that if you can walk out in front of all those people, you can do anything you put your mind to. We hope to hear from you.
