Dear Parents,


            As we start a new year at VPAA, I would like to welcome you and your child (or welcome back to those who were with me last year) to my class. I would like to take this opportunity to share some of the procedures of our classroom.




            The school day officially starts at 7:55. Ms. Charlotte and I will meet bus riders at the bus ramp as they arrive. If you drop your child off at school, you may escort them to Mrs. Price’s room (Building 8, room 110)




            Free breakfast is available for all students. If you wish for your child to get school breakfast, please let me know. If you are dropping off your child at school, please be sure to arrive at school by 7:40 am. Please keep in mind that we do not have snack time until after naptime, so please note that if your child does not eat school breakfast, they will not have anything to eat until lunch.




            Free lunch is now available daily for all students. For those of you that wish to send lunch from home, we do have access to a microwave and refrigerator if needed. Please label lunch boxes and any storage container inside with your child’s name.


Snack Time


            We will be serving a snack as students as they wake up from their naps. I request that you send in a snack to share with the class, such as a package of Goldfish crackers, once a month. If your child has dietary concerns, and you wish to send a snack specifically for your child, please let me know.




            Students will be dismissed at 2:10. If you are picking up your child from school, please wait at the gate outside building 8. I recommend arriving on-campus early in order to avoid the traffic of the parent pick-up line. On early dismissal days (Dec. 20-22 & May 24-26), dismissal is at 12:10.


Early Pickup, Absences, Tardies, & Illnesses


            If your child is going to be absent or tardy to school, please call the front office at 303-3003 and let them know. If your child rides a bus, please also notify Special Transportation at 334-0211 or 303-7400. If you are going to pick up your child early, please send a note or call the front office so we can have them ready to go when you arrive (especially if you are going to pick them up during naptime). Per district policy, students will not be allowed to be picked up early during the last 30 minutes of the school day.

            Please remember that we are a class of mostly 3-4 year olds that can’t cover coughs and sneezes and can’t blow noses. If your child is coughing, sneezing, has a runny nose, or a low grade fever, please, for the sake of all of the children and staff in our pre-k classes, keep them home. Our children are extremely susceptible to all illnesses.



Uniforms/Dress Code


            Veterans Park Academy for the Arts is a uniform school. Students must wear a white, red, navy blue, or hunter green polo shirt (solid, no logos) with navy or khaki pants or shorts. Navy shirts are not allowed with navy bottoms. Jackets must also be red, white, navy blue, or hunter green. Stretch pants and Velcro shoes are recommended for Pre-K students to help facilitate independence. In addition, students may wear a school shirt or ESE team shirt on Mondays or Fridays. The school shirts will be available for purchase at Open House in the Star Cafe. The ESE shirts are the same as last year, and will be available from Mrs. Price if you need one.




            At VPAA, we realize that many parents like to do something special for their child’s birthday. You must notify us in advance if you plan to bring in birthday treats (e.g. cupcakes or cookies- store-bought only). You may also provide juice boxes. Birthday treats will be given out during snack time. Pizza, soda, balloons, and goodie bags are not appropriate for school.




  • 1 large backpack-no wheels-please make sure it is large enough to hold nap blankets that go home once a week for washing and the folder for parent/teacher communication                          
  • Nap mat (I still have some from last year, so check before you buy one)
  • Blanket for naptime (please label with student’s name)
  • Change of Clothes (please label each item with student’s name)
  • Pull-ups (if used)
  • Diaper Wipes
  • Box of Tissues
  • 2 2-pocket folders
  • Hand sanitizer
  • A pack of straws
  • Crayons 24 pack- Crayola                                                       
  • Snack- please send 1 of the following in monthly
  • Goldfish Crackers-large box to share
  • Fruit Loops Type Cereal-large box or bag to share
  • Animal Crackers- Large Bag to share
  • 12-pack of 8 oz. bottled water
  • If you child has eating issues, you may send in what you think they will eat.
