LANGUAGE ARTS/CRITICAL THINKING
Welcome to Ms. Blackwood sixth Grade Language Arts/Critical Thinking class. The Language Arts curriculum is broken into two components: Reading and Writing. This class will teach reading for understanding and fluency, grammar, vocabulary and writing skills. Students reading independently are required to select a novel from the AR (Accelerated Readers) novel list and complete an AR Log. The AR novel list is available to students in the Media Center. Students will also review the eight parts of speech and learn in context new vocabulary words. They will use media, and technology for expressive, informational, argumentative, critical and literary purposes. Students will use the stages of the writing process to write clear, coherent drafts and compositions throughout the school year. The goal is to have students successfully pass the standardized test and move on to the next level.
