We are settling into the school year. I am so excited about the talent of these kind and caring students! This is going to be a great year. Parents please sign up for the "Remind 101" APP for your devices. This is going to be how I can communicate best with you this year.

I can be in constant contact with you for reminders and announcements.

And, you can ask me questions and get a quicker answer. 

Next week we will be measuring 7th and 8th Grade students for thier new uniforms. Please go ahead and send in your payment as soon as possible. Understand that 8th Grade parents will be able to sell the uniform back at the end of the year. Not for the full price, but for some money to come back to you.

I am so excited to get things started this year. We are moving ahead already with 7th and 8th Graders learning new music. Our 6th Graders are just about to complete their scheduling and begin their regular classes.

My son graduates from basic training, so I will be away at Fort Jackson that week. Please read the previous post for all of the information for LGPE. Please, please, please be sure that your student has all of their uniform parts and are in full uniform on their specific performance day. I still need chaperones! I wanted to send you some very important dates that you need to have on your calendar. These dates will include 7th and 8th Grade Chorus, so be sure to check the grades against the dates and times.

Please be sure that your student has a complete uniform. If you have questions or need help, please contact me as soon as possible and I can help.

 

 

 

 

 

Your student has been given forms for the LGPE field trip, lunch order along with a school envelope. The cost for this event is $12. This donation covers the cost of transportation, judges for the event, student lunches at Chick-fil-A, and use of the facility. If there is an issue with the cost for you and your family, please let me know so that I can see about taking care of that expense. I will need chaperones for LGPE for both days. If you can help with this, please let me know so that I can order your food for lunch.

Our YANKEE CANDLE FUNDRAISER is due this MONDAY, the 16th. Please send in all of the fundraiser orders and monies Monday morning. 6th grade parents, have your students turn them in before they go on their field trip. This way our bookkeeper can process the payment and get the orders to me. We MUST mail these in  Wednesday morning in order to receive the products before the Christmas Holidays. Thank you for your help in getting this done in a timely manner.

 

We had a wonderful Veteran's Day Program featuring out 7th Grade Chorus, Band and Orchestra! I was so proud of our students as they honored our Service Men and Women.

 

Please read the November 2nd entry to check on concerts and uniforms. If your child doesn't have the appropriate attire, let me know IMMEDIATELY!! I can help if I know about it soon enough.

Concert's are quickly approaching for 6th, 7th and 8th grade! Please be sure that your child has their Performing Arts Shirt and that it is clean and ready to go. They should also have Khaki pants. Please be sure that these are NOT capris, legging, shorts, cargos, etc. They need to be full length pants. Target and Walmart have a school uniform department that carry these. Please be sure that your child has closed-toed black shoes. NOT tennis shoes! We stand on risers and you can see our shoes, so be sure they are solid black. If girls are wearing boots, their pants must fit over their boots, not on the outside of their pants.  I understand that this sounds like I am being picky. However, I believe that you would rather find these few things instead of purchasing a formal dress and tuxedo pants and shirts for a uniform. Let me know as soon as possible if you have any questions or have difficulty purchasing these items.

It's been a while since I posted. That's because I have been trying to update and improve my site. Unfortunately, I am not the most technologically savy person. When I left to work on my Master's Degree, my parents gave me an electric typewrite! (That tells you how old I am) That being said, I am still working on it, but I needed to give you some updates.

 

  • Polo Shirt orders are due TOMORROW! October 2 (we extended this deadline)
  • October 6: 8th Grade Performing Arts Concert in the gym at 7:00 pm
  • October 9:  Disney Chaperone Forms for the Lottery Drawing are due.
  • October 12: Disney Chaperones will be announced.
  • October 16: Disney Deposits are due! DO NOT BE LATE! We must reserve rooms now!
  • October 17: 8th Grade Performs at "A Taste of Acworth" at 11:00 am.
  • November is the Chorus Fundraiser. We will be selling Yankee Candle Products.

Thank you for all of your thoughts and kind words while I was in the hospital and away form school. I think my students and I have gotten used to my heart monitor going off at times and watching my "plug" myself in to the wall! These are a great group of kids and we are having a good time getting to know each other. I am so glad to be back!

 

I have tried to post the Chorus Handbook and Syllabus to this website. For some reason it is showing up for me, but not for others. So I will be sending home copies of these two important pieces. Please read over them, keep what you need, sign and return those pages that ask for a signature and fill in your family calendar with the dates from our Chorus calendar.

 

If you have a 7th or 8th grader that is going to audition for All-State Chorus, students selected for District XII Honor Chorus, or 6th Graders that were selected for Statewide Honor Chorus,  please be aware of the deadlines. Send the completed forms and registration fees in to school. Students will place them in a school envelope and put them in a black box in the school.

 

7th and 8th Grade Parents:

If your child is interested in going on the Spring Trip to Disney, the Information Meeting is Tuesday, September 29th at 6:30 in the Theater. Please be here so that all of your questions and concerned can be answered.

Welcome back to all of our returning students! Welcome to Awtrey new 6th Graders!

I am so excited to get this year started. We have already begun 6th grade rotation, and 7th and 8th graders are getting music and voicing our choirs. It is great to see the students learning to listen in a whole new way. They are actually hearing the difference between singers! 

 

There will be information coming soon about fundraisers and auditions for All-State, so be on the lookout for upcoming events. I am in the process of uploading the syllabus and handbook on this site. If you need me you can call me at school or just shoot me an email.

It's almost CONCERT TIME!!

Just as a reminder...6th and 7th Grade Spring Concert will be with Band and Orchestra.

Our parent meeting is set for April 23rd at 7:00 in the Theater.

If you are a chaperone, our meeting with you begins at 6:30 in the Theater.

important phone numbers and your child's t-shirts for the trip.

If your child is part of the Yankee Candle Fundraiser, please send their order and money in as soon as possible! We must send the order off by Thursday at the latest.

up to date on your payments!

We don't want to miss any or get behind so that we have

all of our final payments correct.

 

8th Grade Parents:

LGPE is quickly approaching. I have sent home the permission forms and cost for this year. This price covers everything from judges, facility costs, transportation

and lunch. Please send this in by this Friday, February 6th.

I need to order our buses and make arrangements for lunch.

Also, I need a few chaperones to accompany us on this trip.

Please let me know if you would be able to help out if this way.

Well, we're back! I can't believe we are half-way through this year already.

It'd now time to start planning for LGPE, Disney and our end-of-the-year concert!

 

 

This year LGPE is March, 16 and 17

We won't know our specific day and time until closer to the dates.

The state will give us this information in a month or so.

Look for information to come home with your 8th gader soon!

 

If you did not receive your Disney statement before the holidays, please contact me ASAP!

We will  be having a fundraiser for Disney paricipants beginning 1/15/15.

Please, please excuse and old womans ignorance!

My calendar has been wrong for a month...and it's the calendar that is posted in my room. So your children have been totally confused and in turn, have confused you.

 

Our 7th and 8th Grade Holiday Concert is THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4th

at 7:00 pm in the Awtrey Theater.

Your child will need to be here at 6:00 unless they are in 7-2 Chorus. That class was the top fundraiser group, and they will be enjoying a Pizza Party after school that day.

Those students will need to bring everything for the concert to school that morning.

It is almost concert time! Our 6th Graders have thier first concert November 20th in the gym. This is a combined concert with Band, Chorus and Orchestra. Chorus will perform first and then students will join the Band or Orchestra.

For the few students who are not in Band or Orchestra, those students will go and sit with their familes or sit in the bleachers with me until the concert is over.

Our 7th and 8th Graders will have thier Holiday Concert on December 6th in the Theater. All of our students have been working so hard.

You are sure to enjoy these performances.

 

 

September 12, 2014

 

8th Grade Parents please be aware that we have had to postpone our Fall Concert. October 7th is KMHS Magnet Program Open House. We want to give our students the opportunity to attend and not conflict with our performance. I will let you know as soon as I know the new date. 

 

However, we do have other opportunities during that week to perform. We have been asked to sing on the Allatoona High School Concert Thursday night, October 9th. Students are asked to meet at the AHS Chorus Room at 6:00 pm for Pizza. The Concert will begin at 7:30 pm. Other middle schools that feed into AHS will be performing as well. Please let me know as soon as possible in writing if your child has a conflict.

 

ALSO...that same week on Saturday the 11th, we have been asked to sing at "A Taste of Acworth". This would be a brief performance (only 4 songs total) so that you can get on with your Saturday. The perfromance time is 11:00 am. Please let me know ASAP if there are conflicts with your families schedule. We can't do this if there will be a lot of kids out. So I need to be able to plan accordingly.

We are off and running! We even had 6th Graders in class yesterday!! Please check out the documents section of my web site so that you can download all of the forms you need to know about. The Chorus Syllabus and Handbook is online there so that you can know everything from uniforms to calendar dates for the year. There is also a sign up sheet to colunteer o come in and help out here in the Chorus Room and throughout the year. Please look for those forms, print and sign what needs to be returned to me as son as possible. I look forward to seeing you at Open House next Tuesday and Thursday. Have a great weekend!

 

 

Welcome to the 2014-2015 School Year

 

Welcome back to returning students and hello to our new students and parents! I hope that you had a great summer. I think they just keep getting shorter and shorter. This year is going to be a full one for me personally as well as professionally. We have the regular hussle and bussle of school and chorus activities, and I have two SENIORS this year! Yep, my daughter graduates from College and my son graduates from High School. If you see me wandering aimlessly, not quite knowing what I'm doing, please point me in the right direction!

 

Very shortly you will see all syllabus and handbook here on my website along with all forms that need to be signed and returned. This will include, All-State Chorus, Honor Chorus, Disney forms and all information that you may need throughout the year. If you need hard copies, just have your student ask me in class. They will all be in folders on the back bulletin board in the Chorus room. I will do my best to keep you updated here on this site.

 

I do need some help here at school. First off, I need a few "copy Mom's". I would love to have a couple of ladies come in once a week and get copies made for me so that they are always ready and here for the kids. Please email me if you are interested. I must appologize for the confusion of dates for LGPE. The State had to change the dates from their original times. If  you are not sure when the dates and times are...fret no more!

If you haven't sent in your forms and $10 fee, please do so as soon as possible. Today I had the students sign up for their choice of lunch or if they are planning on bringing a lunch from home. The buses will leave that Monday morning at 11:00 and we will return as close to :30 as possible. We will be taking County buses, so the times will depend on the buses arrival. I need about 10chaperones for the trip. We will have 119 students on stage, so

I NEED YOUR HELP!

Welcome!


 We are off to a great start in Chorus and General Music so far this year. Everyone has been given their syllabus and forms to have signed. If you haven't seen these, please email me and I will send another set home with your student.

In General Music this 18 weeks, we are studying World Drumming,  Guitar, The History of Rock and Roll, along with a Broadway Musical unit. Students will be learning drumming from around the world as well as writing their own rhythms. We will then move to a Broadway unit and learn the history of the Broadway Musical and view several DVD's. Please look for the permission form for your signature so that students can view the DVD's.

6th Grade Chorus Uniforms



I will be sending home an order form this week for 6th Grade students to order their Chorus uniform shirts. Our uniforms here at Awtrey are pretty simple. You will order a black, Chorus polo shirt from us. Then each student will purchase their own plain khaki pants and black closed toed shoes as well as black socks. This is our standard uniform for all concerts. Please purchase these as soon as possible. All students must follow school dress code policy. 

 

 

 

 

8th Grade Concert

The 8th Grade Concert is schedule for the 1st of October at 7:00 pm.  This will be a Music Department wide Concert! So Band, Orchestra and Chorus will all be performing. This concert will take place in the gym. This will be a great opportunity for all of you to hear our ensembles all at once. This also provides a time for our students to hear one another perform in their specialties. We don't have these opportunities often, so we are excited. Students will wear their regular Concert attire for this event. If your student is new to Awtrey, please keep an eye out for information to order your Awtrey Polo shirt.

 

 

 

6th Grade Concert

November 19th will be our 6th Grade Music Department Concert. This will include Band, Orchestra and Chorus performances. Our concert will begin at 7:00 pm in the Gym. This is a great opportunity for you to see how the 6th Grade students are progressing. Students will wear their regular Concert attire for this event. Please check your students bookbags for information on ordering their Music Department Polo shirts.

 

 

Holiday Concert

Tuesday, December 17th at 7:00 pm is our Holiday Concert. All Choirs will be performing in the Theater.Students should all be dressed in their concert attire.
