Guided Reading - small group instruction with homogeneous, flexible groups

 

Independent Reading - 20 minutes of sustained, silent reading of a personal choice book 

Whole Group Teacher Read Alouds - working with a response journal and a culminating activity

Writer's Workshop

Open-Ended Questions - written responses to open-ended questions, using RACE (restate question, answer question, cite evidence from text, elaborate)

Phonics

Whole class and small group instruction using the Phonics First program.
