Every month I give students the opportunity to order books from Scholastic Book Club. They will have one week to return order forms and money to me. For example, if I hand out order forms on Monday, they will be due back Monday of the following week. Checks can be made out to Scholastic Book Club.
This year, you will also be able to order books online. Our class code is: H6HNL
Please go to www.scholastic.com/readingclubs to create a user name and password. Books will be delivered to our school and sent home with the students.
Our Classroom Rules:
On the first day of school, the students created what they thought our classroom rules should be. The rules they chose are as follows:
- Be respectful and polite
- Don’t talk when someone else is talking
- Keep your hands to yourself
- Listen quietly and look at the person who is talking
- Raise your hand when you have something to say
- Ask the teacher if you don’t understand something
Each of the students signed their names on the rules and we hung them in the classroom.
Appropriate classroom behavior is expected in our room! When a student has difficulty following the rules, he or she will be asked to complete an infraction notice. This will explain what happened in class and why. He or she will also be asked to write "how to improve behavior." The notice will be sent home and a signature is required by a parent/guardian. This will help us with communication and always keep you informed.
Homework and Grading:
Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. The purpose of homework is to encourage learning outside of the classroom environment and to reinforce skills presented in class. Please help your child to be responsible and develop positive work habits. I encourage parental guidance, (studying or reading with your child, reading directions, or giving examples). However, you should not have to reteach a concept or have your child struggle. If there is a concern or if your child shows signs of frustration, please notify me by note or email. When a student misses an assignment, he or she will complete a form explaining why homework was not completed. They will then discuss their response with me. All students are responsible for their own work. The amount of missed assignments will be reflected on your child’s report card.
Students will be using a Student Planner to record homework assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects. Parents are encouraged to check the planners daily. Homework will be updated on the webpage daily.
At the end of every class, students will be given the opportunity to ask questions or see the teacher for assistance if struggling with a particular subject. This is something that will be done every day. This will also give the students a chance to clarify any questions on homework.
Students will be assessed in various ways. A percentage is given in each subject area this year. They will be evaluated based on classroom performance, observations, tests, quizzes, projects, and written work. Tests will be sent home for your review and signature. Please contact me if there are any questions or concerns. In order to be promoted to the next grade level, students need to attend school on a regular basis, arrive on time, be prepared for class, and successfully complete the fourth grade curriculum.
I will be available if a student needs any assistance. Please notify me immediately if having difficulty.
