My goal is to foster a true understanding of the joy and importance of written communication.  I will provide daily journal topics they can write about in their Free Write journals which cover a wide variety of the reasons we write.  I will also incorporate the use of a Communication Center where students can write to various people of their choice. This includes government officials, athletes, authors, classmates, etc.  Each year the students enjoy the responses their classmates receive and share in their excitement.  The joy the students begin to feel for their writing often encourages a love of reading!
