Dear Parents,

As part of our upcoming year in Social Studies, the class and I have developed our own “Class Constitution.”  As a group, we brainstormed rules and beliefs that we would like the classroom to have.  From our discussion we were left with the following.

We, the students of Mrs. Flanagan’s 5th grade class, in order to form a more perfect classroom, believe that:

*We should always include others

*We should clean up after yourself

*We should treat supplies with care

*We should be responsible

*We should be kind to everyone

*We should listen when anyone is talking

*We should finish our work on time

*We should be respectful

*We should be cooperative

*We should work hard

*We should do what we're supposed to do

*We should raise our hands

*We should follow directions

*We should treat people the way we want to be treated

The following members of the class have sworn the above into effect on September 6, 2022. (student’s signatures appear on the rules)

Our rules were developed after discussing everyone’s thoughts and ideas and encompassing those thoughts into three main class laws. Their ideas included; we should not cheat, we should not bully, we should keep our hands to ourselves, we should not run, we should listen to directions and to who is speaking.

The class has also been informed of the following procedures should our class laws be broken.

1st violation is a warning from an adult

2nd violation results in half of recess spent inside

3rd violation results in all of recess spent inside and a note from the child explaining why they had to stay in which needs to be signed by a parent and returned.

I just wanted you to be aware of the policies and the decided upon rules so that myself, the parents and the students can all work together to make this a wonderful year!

                                                                                 Thank you,

                                                                                 Mrs. Flanagan
