ELA

We are working on Lesson 13.  This week's...

 

Essential Question:  Why are stories from different cultures important?

Target Vocabulary: examined, peak, fondly, steep, rugged, mist, pausing, pleaded

Spelling Pattern:  contractions

Comprehension Skills:  compare/contrast, story message, analyze/evaluate

Vocabulary Strategies:  Homophones and Homographs

Grammar Skill:  Subject-verb agreement

Writing:  Research project -countries participating in the Winter Olympics

 

 

 

Math

We are finishing up Topic 7:  Represnet and Interpret Data.  Students have learned how to read, create, and interpret picture graphs and bar graphs.  A test will be given on Monday, 1/22.  As you study with your child, please review the Key words paper found in the math pocket of the STAR folder.  These words help children determine when to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

 

Please continue to practice multiplication facts at home.

 

 

Social Studies

We learned about the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark, and the Pioneers.  The classes have been listening to a book called "Dandelions" by Eve Bunting.  It helps to illustrate the hardships of moving west, and the everyday difficulties pioneers faced.  Our next topic will be the Civil War and Slavery.
