WE DID IT! WE ARE A TWO-TIME NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL!
We were awarded this honor in 2011 and 2017!
Hi, my name is Dina Miller and I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I moved to Florida in 1988 and received my degree in Elementary Education from Florida International University, and my Master’s in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. I have been married for 25 years to Ed Miller and we have raised two amazing children who are currently attending college. My son Justin attends the University of Florida and my daughter Haley attends Flordia State University; both are seeking pre-med degrees. When I am not working I enjoy my dogs, cooking, gardening, and crafts.
I began my educational career in 1992 with Broward County Public Schools where I taught third and fifth grade. I joined Somerset Academy Inc. in August 2000, opening Somerset Academy in Pembroke Pines as Assistant Principal. During the 2003-2004 school year, I was offered the opportunity to open Somerset Academy Davie as Principal and first-grade teacher. Although the initial site was originally a contingency plan for a future facility the school in its original location has flourished and truly embraced the neighborhood school paradigm of Somerset. During the initial years of operation 2003-2008, Somerset Davie did not meet the criteria to be issued a school grade from the Florida Department of Education due to its enrollment. However, since 2008, Somerset Davie has been awarded the school grade of "A" annually by the Florida Department of Education. In 2011, Somerset Davie was the first Somerset school to be selected by the US Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School, awarded in a ceremony held in Washington, D.C. presented by the Secretary of Education. In 2011, Somerset Davie was also honored with a Proclamation granted by the Mayor of the Town of Davie recognizing “Somerset Davie Day” due to the school’s exemplary achievement. In 2017, Somerset Davie was honored with a second National Blue Ribbon Award for Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing school.
I have been fortunate to be recognized for outstanding leadership by The Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools in 2013; honored as Champion School Leader by the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools in 2016 and in 2018, and honored at the National Charter School Conference by the Florida Charter School Alliance as a 2018 Charter School Hero.
I look forward to working with your family and will always strive to make a difference in the lives of children.
