Welcome!
Welcome to an exciting new school year! My name is Mrs. Kutschman and I am truly honored and overjoyed to serve as your child’s American Sign Language (ASL) teacher.
My love for American Sign Language isn't something that just started in a college classroom, as I have had a deep passion for learning ASL for years. To turn that lifelong calling into a career, I completed Ocean County College’s Sign Language Interpreter program, where I honed my skills in visual communication, ASL structure, and Deaf culture. I am thrilled to bring that longtime passion into our classroom and share the beauty of this language with our school community.
In our classroom, we learn that our hands, faces, and hearts can all be used to glorify God and love one another. As we begin our journey together, I am guided by these wonderful words of Scripture:
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” (Romans 12:10)
“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (1 John 4:11)
This year, I have the privilege of teaching our Early Learning Center, Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 6th-grade students. While each age group will explore ASL at their own grade level, learning sign language offers wonderful developmental benefits for every age.
For Early Learners, Pre-K, & Kindergarten: Early childhood is a magical time for visual and motor learning. ASL strengthens fine motor skills, accelerates early language acquisition, and helps young learners express their feelings, needs, and faith before their vocal vocabulary fully matures. It also builds strong visual processing skills and spatial awareness.
For 6th Grade: Middle schoolers transition into complex language structures, visual grammar, and Deaf history. Learning ASL enhances spatial reasoning, boosts memory and focus, and encourages empathy. It gives students a powerful tool for Christian service, allowing them to participate in inclusive prayer and witness how communication builds bridges in our world.
For Every Grade Level: ASL cultivates inclusive hearts. It teaches our students to listen with their eyes and hearts, value every individual’s inherent dignity, and practice Christ-like hospitality toward others.
My goal is to create a warm, joyful, and encouraging environment where your child feels confident expressing themselves, discovering new skills, and growing in their faith.
I look forward to partnering with you this year and seeing all the amazing ways our students will grow! Please feel free to reach out to me anytime with questions or just to say hello.
May God abundantly bless you and your family as we begin this new school year together!
With warm blessings and joy,
Mrs. Kutschman
