Welcome to the 2019-20 academic year! I am ecstatic to have your child in my class this year! My name is Kerrie Belfi and I will be your child's fourth grade ELA teacher. This is my eighth year teaching. Fourth grade is a transitional year; one in which your child will participate in engaging explorations in the classroom, acquire new skills, and discover how to be a more independent learner! In my classroom, I strive to motivate students to maximize their learning and encourage every child to take a risk. I believe learning is a trial and error process where the child will find their way, through discovery.

So much happens in fourth grade! Because of this, the year will be full of important transitions.

It is extremely important to keep in mind that we all build on our successes. Each child will grow and progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child’s self-esteem and building a secure foundation will always remain a priority.

Here are some ways you can help at home:

*Celebrate your child’s success, no matter how small it may seem. This will help keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work.

* Make sure your child reads every night, if possible. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him or her to incorporate those skills in both reading and writing.

Parent/Teacher Relationship

I believe that parent and teacher communication is vital for a happy and successful school year. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through class dojo, email, telephone calls, quarterly reports, and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can call me at school, send me a dojo message, note, or email me at [email protected]
