I am so excited about this new school year and I look forward to an amazing year of investigating and exploring. This is my second career, I worked in the private sector, before attending Southeastern Louisiana University. I received a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education with a add on for fourth and fifth grade. This is my eighth year of teaching and my first year at Independence Leadership Academy. My teaching philology is based on Relationships, Relevance and Rigor. I believe building solid relationships with my students provides an environment of trust. I know my students will put forth their best effort and my students will know I support them socially, emotionally, and academcially. My lessons includes elements of relevance of how Math applys in their everyday life. Rigor is the process of helping students strength their knowledge to just beyond what they already know.
I teach whole group on grade level, along with small group enrichment or interventions. We meet in small group at a scheduled time during our time together. Students are grouped by proficiently levels and are assigned a time each day to meet with me. This is the time I will differentiate the work students complete. If I see a student has mastered the skill we are working on, they move on to enrichment activities. If a student needs further assistance with the skill, they will move on to an intervention activity. This could be a mini lesson or simply more practice with the skill.
In our classroom we will use engaging hands on activities to ensure each student masters the standards for math by the end of the school year. Hands on activities are exciting for students and they will be bursting to tell you all about the things they did in school each day. I am certain by the end of the year you will see a blossoming Mathematicians. I am looking forward to a successful year of learning with your students.
