Welcome to Mr. Scriven’s Art class!!

“If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, will answer you: I am here to live out loud.”
Émile Zola

I have decided to utilize google classroom to have a dedicated art class for most of my classes. Parents feel free to see and contact me about any interest about my course. My idea in google classroom to expose my students to different artists, techniques and styles that they may not find other places. I also use it to expose them to some artist with similar cultural background and views that they may identify with.I also give assignments when I’m out or research if the want for our next in school project. Each week I pick an Artist and Quote of the week for students to start a conversation with you, students and myself about Art.

All of Art students from grades 2nd through 8th grade must have an Art Journal to be graded before the end of each marking period.

I feel having a pad with white, unlined paper is available from a variety of different stores in the area such as : The Dollar Stores, Michaels, Walmart, Wal-Greens, Staples, Target, Rite-Aid, Shop-Rite, Stop and Shop, ETC....This pad should be around 9" X 12” or smaller. If you can't get your child sketchpad, you can staple 20-25 sheets of printer paper together and put this into a folder. The folder or journal must be labeled "ART JOURNAL" and must have the students Name, Grade and Room Number on the front cover. If they owned an art journal last year, if there are enough pages left to get through this year. A check - as a classwork will be given to your child if they come to class without their journal.  An assigned homework WILL NOT be given every week, however, your child is required to have their journal to class. This marking period, A total of 5 or more sketches with receive a positive grade.
