WHAT WE WILL COVER:

INTERMEDIATE

Knowing English

-Unwrapping English, is like opening up another version of yourself.  Discovering new vocabulary, new ways to express your interests, a variety of idioms, helps you identify with the world.   What you learn in ESL will help show yourself to society, and others (should you choose to visit cultures beyond America’s) – ESL gives you new ‘tools’ to express your opinions.

The ESL Intermediate class supports skills that develop vocabulary, make deeper inferences from text, examine author's use of language, purpose, and perspective.

ADVANCED

ESL Advanced works to refine the proficiency of English Language Learners.  Students should be ready to …

            -polish and apply grammar

            -build vocabulary

            -analyze & synthesize literature

-create extended and more complex thoughts in writing

Students read a variety of complex texts to analyze multiple viewpoints, develop perspectives, identify and support their stances.  The variety of reading covers depth and breadth.

If you wish to project yourself to the world, this is where you’ll get tons of practice.  Be prepared to read, to write, to share what you’ve learned, and to assert: how you feel, what you think, and why you believe the way you do.  This class is about “working out the ‘kinks’” – (that would be an idiom, meaning, “to fix those things about English with which you have trouble”).
